Fall, 2008

We have finally finished the exterior walls of the house and have begun to finish out the interior. Construction will go much more quickly now.

Valerie and Billy from Architextural Millwork and Cabinetry (FL) have been out to measure and discuss the curvy kitchen they are building for Villa Lagoon.

We used a garden hose to aid in the layout of our kitchen island and cabinets. They are both very optimistic that they can build this odd kitchen and happy to be a part of the Villa Lagoon project.

The insulation truck as arrived and the fun has begun ! This truck has equipment to spray foam on the interior roof between the rafters, well, trusses in this case. Everything else is sheathed in plastic sheeting and when the spraying begins, foam is likely to go anywhere.

Waterproofing our dry stack concrete block walls:

We have opted to spray the clear sealer, Miracle 511, on the exterior of our building with emphasis on the grout lines. We had the man-lift for 2 months and we finished up the sealing treatment right before it was due to go back.

After a rain, it was easy to see the areas where we had not used the sealer.
Our plumbing is in and the water lines and sewer lines are now connected.

Sheetrock substitute magnesium oxide wallboard wallboard of MgO imported from China Installing magnesium oxide wall boards
We are using Magnum Board magnesium oxide wall board, ceilings and floor underlayment. If we ever have another major storm or hurricane we will not have to worry about things like Sheetrock or gypsum drywall melting in the water. Roy and his crew are putting the MagnumBoard up with screws and regular drywall mud.
Sun Dome tube skylight in master bathroomThe Sun Domes that we have installed in the roof let in a lot of light. I wish that we had  been able to use more and maybe one day I can go back and add more.

We have done a great deal of outside clean-up and the new driveway of recycled concrete (some of it our own Dac-Art scraps) .

We have found a kitchen counter top material that really looks good with our Villa Lagoon Tile cement tile that is going all the way thru the living room and kitchen area. Granite Transformations has a new series of recycled glass and resin counter top products that has a great blue match for us. Here you see the product in different parts of the room with one of our floor tile. Read more about it on www.ConcreteCottage.com
