Hurricane Strength
With each major storm, Villa Lagoon's media
coverage increased, and our web traffic increased as people search for
information on hurricane-proof houses.

In 2004 Hurricane Ivan with winds of + 130
mph was a direct hit to the Gulf Shores area.

The property was full of debris
from destroyed traditionally-built nearby homes.

These photos were taken when we
were allowed back in the area, one week after Hurricane Ivan struck.

As these two photos above show,
our neighbors on Little Lagoon suffered considerable damage and some homes were
totally destroyed.

Hurricane Katrina followed in 2005.
These photos were taken after the high water receded
immediately following Hurricane Katrina's impact. The winds was so strong that
it was impossible to stand on the porch of the house. The photographs were taken
standing so that Villa Lagoon blocked some of the wind. It was feared that the
still pounding salt air would be forced into the camera and ruin it forever. The
waves in shallow Little Lagoon looked like the Gulf of Mexico which is just
across a narrow strip of sand to the south..

Phase I of Villa Lagoon suffered no
structural damage from either storm.
