The basement floor that is designed to keep
out water in the event of a hurricane, is now holding water from all the
recent rain we have had. We have had to use the small sump pump running
for a long time to empty the area. It has been one good test of the
water-tightness of our grout and blocks tho. Instead of the water being
outside trying to enter, we have watched to see if any of it tried to
exit thru the blocks. You can see the top of a white plastic bucket
sticking out of the slab where the sump pump is located, the slab has a
recessed area just for such a purpose. |

Our Link Belt 22 ton crane is working our
great....whoever builds a DAC-ART house next needs to get in line to buy
it from us at the end of this job. On the right, the extra sand we had
on hand has been pushed into the garage area where we will have to bring
in additional fill and pour a slab on top. The lot slopes up as it
approaches the street, so the slab needs to be plenty high so rain water
doesn't tend to run back into it. Our weather has been changing lately
from summer to fall. This has meant lots of cool days tons of rain, and
some days where they are both dark clouds out over the Gulf and sun out
at the same time. |

Our faithful Osprey shows up to perch in his
favorite dead tree 'look-out' over Little Lagoon. |
The long west wall of the above ground
basement. We will get great sun in the windows on the west side on the
upper floors. The basement, of course, has no windows, since the whole
idea is to keep out the occasional flood waters. |
 |
| You can see plenty of the cuts
made into my blocks to make open corners where the back-fill mix and
rebar can run through to form a strong, unified system. New Stone Age Builders has several saws that make quick work of sawing concrete. They
have made some patterns from plywood to mark the blocks perfectly and
they do very neat cuts. |

| Standing up close to the
driveway entrance in October, just enjoying this fine crane !. The photo
on the right shows the garage area and the recess is where the stairs
will go from garage up into the entrance hall area. |

The area between the two structures will
most likely become a sort of courtyard area when the project is
finished. Since fig vine grows outside in this climate, I can grow it up
the stark basement walls to soften the look. |

| Notice the dark clouds in the sky. Lately
we have had a TON of rain and the temp is a lot cooler. We have about 18
inches of water in the basement area right now. Isn't it a wonderful
thing that when building with DAC-ART you do not have to concern
yourself with protecting the product from the elements. We just remove
the water and go back to work. |
Some blocks get cut in odd shapes. I came
over at night and took this photo with a flash. From other angles the
top surface looked like it was floating in thin air.
If we were not using blocks that were
poured for a different house that did not get built, we would have
minimum cutting to do. |
